Lesson 3: Understanding Sock Anatomy

A sock typically includes:

  • Cuff – stretchy ribbing that holds the sock up.
  • Leg – the portion above the ankle.
  • Heel flap & turn – where the sock bends around your heel.
  • Gusset – connects the heel to the foot.
  • Foot – from gusset to toe.
  • Toe – shaped to taper and closed with grafting or cinching.

Knowing the structure helps you read patterns and fix errors confidently.
